As a child, Ben spent a lot of time with his grandmother. With his mother's busy political career, and his father's absence, Padme nurtured Ben through his younger years. She taught him how to read, write, and play piano. Sometimes, when he closed his eyes, he could still remember the feeling of lying on her chest, rocking back and forth as she read to him.After his grandmother's death, Leia sent Ben to an all-boys prepatory school in London. Though she promised she'd write and visit, her career kept her away. Ben was forced to move through life alone, his books and musings his only company.In thie spirit of his Padme's instruction, Ben received his PhD and became an instructor. After all, it was a safe environment to interact with others while still maintaing his solitary lifestyle.
